"The 'Bokies' are after me," I said to Michael this morning. I checked my blog stats this morning and discovered an insane amount of traffic on my blog. The source? Christian Bok had linked to me on his Twitter page (I am now twitterpated):
They dislike "Eunoia"—but nevertheless find me charming at the Winnipeg International Writers Festival
If I had known you all were coming here, I would have baked a cake. No wait, tarts (cake has an a and an e in it).
Eunoia the book I didn't much care for (although I have great appreciation for it as a project), Eunoia the performance however was an unforgettable surprise and delight. I now see the book as like the lyrics notes for a favourite CD. Trust me though, I saw many, many folks crowding around the charming and dashing Mr. Bok, I am sure that my feelings about his book were in the minority.
Seriously though Bokies, wouldn't he be perfect on the back of a box of Cheerios?
As Christian explained on Wednesday to the audience, eunoia is the shortest English word containing all five main vowels. It actually means "beautiful thinking" and refers to the state of mind one has to be in to make a new friend. Sounds like my kind of state.
Here is a YouTube video of one of Mr. Bok's performances. Note the suit. Enjoy.
