The week so far-- Golfing. Gambling. Canoeing. Sweating.

Yesterday I golfed back at Assiniboine (we alternate every week between Assiniboine and Players’). I don’t like Assiniboine and it doesn’t like me but it makes for a good battle. It keeps throwing its arsenal at me—heat, wind, bugs, lousy fairways, boring scenery but I just keep hitting away and celebrating the few awesome shots I make. When I finally get to go home, I’m dirty, sweaty, blistered and reeking of eau de bug spray but feeling pretty good. It’s pretty easy to like something you’re good at, but to like something you have to fight your way through is a rewarding challenge in itself. The team of guys we played were kind of jerks, which added a whole other element of challenge. They weren’t very good though.

Jill’s (unlucky?) lucky streak continues. I came back to my desk Monday afternoon to a voicemail from HOT103. I had won an office of the day type prize. The contest is called Hot Nights at the Races. Every Friday an office group gets to go to Assiniboia Downs for food, betting lessons, and a free $2.00 wager. As Michael my co-worker said, it’s not fair that the last two prizes I’ve won were for group activities. Since April, I’ve won three online radio contests—gift certificate for Ce Soir, the Back Yard BBQ, and now this.

Unfortunately, most of my co-workers cannot attend. I am free to invite up to 32 friends and family though. My dad is working on a guest list. Let me know if you want on it. I was personally hoping to drive up to the lake that night. Maybe I still will after the event. If I win big though I’m going back to San Francisco and bringing home more wine.

The rest of my week is filling up nicely. On Wednesday I'm going to ditch my Red Shoe House meeting and go canoeing with Rob, finally (yeah, it feels icky, but after the last meeting I feel less guilty about skipping. I'm taking a well deserved selfish moment). We've been trying to go since May. The last time I went I ended up partnered with this mom who tried to set me up with her son. I'm not too disappointed that I will be missing out on that opportunity although Rob may be a bit bummed. On Thursday I think I'm going to Hot Yoga. If you haven't heard of it, it's where you do yoga in a really really hot room so there is a lot of sweating. My sister went a few weeks ago and she came home looking like she got caught in the rain. Friday as mentioned is the horse racing party and (fingers crossed) a drive to the cottage afterward. Sunday is my mom's surprise birthday party (shhh, don't tell her!). Things are looking great.
