Paddling down the Manitoba Amazon

Went canoeing last night with Rob. In the summer on Wednesday nights the Manitoba Paddling Association leads a two hour paddle (down the creek? river? I can't remember the name of the body of water we were on). It's a very reasonable $5.00 to use the canoe, paddles, and life jackets. It was a crazy hot day (35 with a humidex in the 40s). It felt a little cooler on the water but it was still tempting to accidently tip the canoe and go for a dip. I had been looking forward to the activity all day though and it definitely did not disappoint.

Rob steered which left me with the easy job of just paddling. I also had the luxury of being able to set my paddle down every once in a while to take a picture.

We were one of the more skilled teams out there I would say and quickly pulled ahead of the pack. I saw three fish near the surface and a blue heron.

Rob: What would you do if you saw a crocodile?

Jill: I'd hit it!

Rob: With your paddle?

Jill: Yes! What would you do?

Rob: I'd wrestle it.

Jill: Without tipping the canoe?

Fortunately there were no crocs to hit or wrestle. I kept my eye out for one though. This is the closest we came

As Rob said to me, "that's a real nice picture of a log, Jill."

I think we're going to go again. We might borrow a canoe next time from my neighbour (then we can go for free!) I'll have to figure out how to strap it to Truck. Two more things I missed while in California: Truck and Rob.

Up next is Hot Yoga! (Do not expect pictures)

It was a good time. I enjoyed the fact that for once I didn't have to worry about tipping over into a cesspool of urban runoff.

Admit it, you were impressed with my crazy awesome canoe skills. After all, I am a professional.

I quite enjoyed your canoe skills. I hope the work on my end was sufficient at least!

The river you were on paddling on is called the La Salle. The man tippy canoe man is likely Charles Burchill. Such a great little river isn't it? That beautiful blue heron has been haunting the area for years. It usually nests around the same place every time.
