Jilly's 1st Halloween

Tonight is a special evening because for the first time I get to participate in Halloween as a distributor. It's been a long while since I've dressed up and canvassed door-to-door for candy and I don't have any little goblins of my own, so I think I've lost touch with the Halloween spirit.

Last night I carved a pumpkin and hung a few decorations in the window. My dad was over and I could see he was getting excited about it all. I got my candy ready--175 pieces. I have no idea how many kids I will get. I just had my first one a few minutes ago--a little girl. I gave her some Twizzlers and milk duds. Will she even like those? Oh, here's another one. Not much for costumes--it's hovering around 2 degrees outside with a bit of a wind--mostly warm jackets, hats and a mask or face paint.

On Saturday I attended two Halloween parties. I hadn't planned on dressing up until I was with my mom in the fabric store and she started getting excited about sewing something for me. I had it really good as a kid, my mom sewed a lot of fun costumes for my sister and me. This year we decided to go back to 1985 and revive my pink haired idol, Jem.

To research the details of her outfit, I found the old cartoons on YouTube. I've been watching the episodes everyday while eating breakfast. She was a woman before her time. Not long ago on The Hour George named her in the top 5 list of female rockers. As I watched Jem/Jerrica struggle with her relationship with her true love, Rio, I realised that everything I believe in about love and friendship I learned from watching Jem and The Princess Bride. I was four years old.

Okay, it's been an hour now and I've had about 10 kids. I was totally expecting way more. I was anticipating between 50 and 100. Dad will be happy for all the leftover Oh Henrys. The kids have been polite which makes them a little endearing I suppose.

The last group of older kids came at about 8:30. By my count, I got 22 kids. That leaves me with quite the haul of leftovers. Come on by!

I saw your pic first on Facebook and I TOTALLY freaked out when I figured out who it was, it is soooo PERFECT! I was so obsessed with Jem (and some may say I still am). Way to go, Jilly - I'm impressed!

I've been lurking on this site, I'm afraid, but now I had to post: when I was growing up, I considered (and still do consider) that Jerrica's sister Kimber never got the props she deserved.

Thanks for the note, A. I agree, Kimber had a very good story. Sometimes though you'd think Jerrica was the only daughter.

Oh, ice-cream *before* bed. I had it the wrong way round, which explains the mess.

Is that Shakespeare of Marlowe. You see, this is why I don't get any work done.
