On Friday I set things up so I can do encrypted posts (thanks for the coaching, Vince). I can now hide part or all of a post from public viewing and make it accessible only by a key. This is supposed to mean that I can blog without reserve because I can encrypt anything I want to keep private or only allow certain eyes to see. I'm not sure how I will use this feature. To begin with, I don't have a lot of secrets; I'm pretty open and honest on my blog. My other concern is that I don't want any of my readers to get miffed because I'm hiding something from them (it always goes back to the audience). Anyway, I have the tool now, I'm interested to see how I end up using it. I've decided to give it a whirl today. You can ask me for the key if you were at Rob's on Saturday night.

There, comments issue fixed (see Kasia's

I get what you're saying Kasia about being selective as to who gets to hear the juice. As you read, offending my readers was one of my first concerns. I have thought about a secret blog and yes, I do have one. I see the value of encryption in a few places. 1)venting about work--not work people--just the work itself. 2)Laziness. Sometimes there's just a whole pile of history I'd rather not spend time going into to get my point across. I can encrypt a post and share with only the people who know the history or who I think would care to hear the history (ie, they'd ask for the details privately). This was mostly the case with my test post last night. The people who have known me for years will understand the context.
I don't want to use the encryption unless I feel I absolutely must. I like the challenge of trying to say as much as I can while still keeping some details under my hat. The tool is just nice to have if I think I need it. It's in an experiment stage right now. We'll see how it goes and if I find I really do use it.
Neat idea.. I think I still like the whole "public/private" thing are wordpress. I had a bunch of private posts on mine, wnich I gusss only I can read, and whomever else is registered with the proper access levels..
I'm not familiar with the features of wordpress, but I've been told one advantage of this method is that I can do a combo public and private post (as this one was) whereas with wordpress it's all or nothing.
I'm not terribly concerned about someone trying to hack in and decrypt my secrets, but this method is completely secure (as long as I don't get injected with truth serum and let the key slip, heh). Kudos to Vince for writing the code, which someone has since stolen and set up for public use on a pretty website that I won't name here.
