Someone get me a time machine and an idiot driver zapper

On my way to golf today I was simultaneously trying to drive around idiots who don't know how to merge and flipping through the radio stations looking as always for the soundtrack to my life (there will be many volumes and it will be great). I ended up on 92 CITI which was playing Cheap Trick, The Flame. It was the third time I had heard it in less than 24 hours.

Someone told me once that I was very intuitive. I thought that was a pretty awesome thing to be. It's too bad I can't seem to find my intuition most of the time. A girl I worked with told me she always looks for things in threes. If something "shows up" three times it's a sign for her to pay attention. I tried that, but I always ended up with twos. I have a theory about how my intuition actually works, but I'll save that for another time.

So back to The Flame; here we have a three-peat. It's an interesting one because it's a bit of an obscure song, not one that they are playing 10 times a day. Does it mean anything? I'm not going to bet on it. But I do enjoy the song and the lyrics. It's from 1987. I don't know why people gag so much on the 80s. I love music from the 80s and early 90s. For me that era just says love and raw passion. That whole "anything in the name of love" attitude. The boy bands tried to bring that feeling back but it was just pathetic. There is a reason they were called boy bands and not " real men with heartache" bands. Someone asked me once if I could pick a guy from any era which would it be. I said the 80s and she laughed at me. Forget the clothes and the hair for a minute(they weren't that bad, and they're coming back). I just want to be the girl in the Poison or Bon Jovi music video (ohh, or Mr.Big...I wouldn't make him wait on that line of greens and blues for very long). Yes, really. Please send me back. Clearly there was a mistake.

Whenever you need someone to lay your heart and head upon.
Remember: after the fire, after all the rain,I will be the flame.

The Flame, Cheap Trick

That's love. I am driven to it intuitively.

Other songs I found when looking up the lyrics to The Flame

  • Waiting for a girl like you, Foreigner (I'm really going to try to see Lou Graham in Morden this year)
  • Drive, Cars
  • Patience, Guns N' Roses
  • Taking you home, Don Henley (or most anything by him, Boys of Summer is also a fave)
  • The glory of love, Chicago
  • Always, Atlantic Star (okay, this one is cheesy even for me, but it makes me think of 80s weddings.)
I could go on and on but I probably lost most of you when I said "I don't know why people gag so much on the 80s." Did anyone know what I was talking about when I said I wouldn't make Mr. Big wait very long on his line of greens and blues? Oh for crying out loud here.

Lame as it is for me to comment on my own archived post, I have to mention here that last weekend I helped my future cousin put together a picture montage proposal. Y'know what song he picked to play along with it? The Flame. That's it, I'm having Cheap Trick play at my wedding. And on the theme of old hair bands, maybe I'll walk down the aisle to November Rain :P (Except hopefully I won't die, like the bride in the video.)
